General Interest
Aurelia was the greatest talent of the Dinamo Club Bucuresti
and at the 1987 Rotterdam World Championships, many specialists
considered that she was the second Nadia Comaneci!
Aurelia Dobre is the Youngest Female World Gymnastics
Champion, (October 23, 1987 Rotterdam, Netherlands - 14
years 352 days) -according to the Guiness
Book of Records.
To win the women's all-round title, Dobre competed in
four separate gymnastics disciplines - beam, vault, floor,
and uneven bars - with each being marked individually. To
win the title, Dobre had the highest combined score at the
end of each event.
Her coaches were Emilia Lita and Florea Stefanescu. She had
an exquisite technique and easiness in doing everything she
tried. She really enjoyed doing gymnastics and unfortunately,
her career was quite short because of two major injuries.
Aurelia was the star of the Rotterdam World Championships
and helped the team in the Seoul Olympic Games.
In 1990, Dobre became a controversial figure when she spoke
out against the Romanian gymnastics system. Then, in 1991,
she shocked many when she posed nude in an eight-page spread
for the September issue of Dutch Playboy. She was reportedly
paid $50,000.
In 1991, Dobre and teammate Silivas competed in the World
Professional Championships held in the USA. Yes, there HAS
been a World Professional Championships without any members
of the MAG 7.
Soon after the 1991 World Professional Championships, Dobre
met Fit 'n Fun gym owner Boz Mofid. On November 7th, 1992
Dobre and Mofid were married. Attending the wedding were former
Romanian gymnasts Lavinia Agache and Daniela Silivas. Dobre
now helps out at the gym, choreographing and teaching dance.
She and Mofid have four sons, the first two are named Cyrus
and Darius and the last two - twins - are named Marcus and
Lucas. This twins were born in late February.
