Brandy was born on April 30, 1973. She spent most of her
gymnastics career at Brown's Gym in Orlando with coaches Rita and Kevin Brown;
she trained briefly with Bela Karolyi prior to the 1988 Olympics. Brandy
retired in 1990 and married Bill Scharpf, a professional waterskiier and stuntman.
Their first daughter, Sydney, was born in July 2000.
Brandy Johnson won the 1987 junior national AA title at the US gymnastics
championships. She went on to compete in the 1988 Summer Olympics and had the
best finish of any US athlete, male or female, 10th all-around. Brandy was virtually
undefeated in 1989, winning the American Cup and US senior national title, as
well as earning the highest AA finish ever by a US female, 7th.
She retired in 1991 and went on to a successful career in stunt-work for films.
She married Bill Scharpf and had a baby girl named Sydney. Brandy is currently
the owner of "Brandy Johnson's Gymnastics" in Apopka, Florida.
